Q. When I try to test my solid state relay with a DVM or neon light, it does not seem to function, is it bad?

A. Since the relay has a triac output, a DVM or neon light will not conduct enough current to complete the circuit path. Try testing the relay with a conventional analog volt meter or an incandescent lamp.
